Dashboard walkthrough

The dashboard is a 3-column layout: left sidebar, center map, right detail panel.

Dashboard in All mode showing all sub-watersheds colored by annual deficit Basin Overview (All mode): sub-watersheds colored by annual deficit, right panel showing basin-wide aggregates.

Four tabs:

Tab What it does
Basin Overview WRUA dropdown, scenario picker, map layer toggles
WRUA Selection Click any of the 119 WRUAs to drill in
Temporal Analysis Filter the dashboard to a single month or year (2019 to 2023)
Export Data CSV and PDF downloads for the selected WRUA

Layer toggles control what the map shows:

Layer Description
WRUA Color Fill WRUAs filled in their brand colors
Sub-Watersheds Sub-watershed polygons colored by annual deficit
WRUA Boundaries White outline around each WRUA
All WRUAs The full set of 119 CHEF-region WRUAs (on by default)

Center map

A Leaflet map centered on the Central Highlands Ecoregions Foodscape (CHEF), central Kenya.

  • Hover any sub-watershed polygon to see its WS id, elevation, annual deficit, and surplus.
  • Click a WRUA boundary (or a sub-watershed in "All" mode) to drill into that WRUA.
  • Bottom-left legend shows the deficit colormap thresholds.

Right detail panel

In single-WRUA mode the panel shows:

  1. Header: WRUA name, total area, elevation range.
  2. Monthly Water Balance: 12-month bar chart of surplus (green, up) and gross deficit (orange, down), in Mm³, summed across all the WRUA's sub-watersheds.
  3. Deficit Intensity Matrix: heatmap of the top 10 sub-watersheds by peak monthly deficit. Rows are sorted by elevation (highest first), columns are months.
  4. Recommended Interventions: top 15 sub-watersheds by max monthly deficit, with pond counts and priority labels (high / medium / low).
  5. Export buttons: CSV (monthly rows) and PDF (10-page IWMI-branded report).

In "All" mode the panel shows basin-wide aggregates instead:

  • Header with the WRUA and sub-watershed counts for the current selection
  • Stat tiles: total area and basin elevation range
  • Monthly balance chart summed across all WRUAs in view
  • Top sub-watersheds basin-wide
  • Top priority intervention sites basin-wide (labelled WS {id} ({wrua}))
